Controversy Over Offering Gangajal Inside Taj Mahal on Mahashivratri

Shivling Placed Inside Taj Mahal for Worship

A recent incident in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, has sparked debate after a Shivling was placed inside the Taj Mahal and offered Gangajal. This took place on February 26 during Mahashivratri when Meera Rathore, the District President of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha Mahila Morcha, entered the Taj Mahal and performed a religious ritual. Videos of the event are now going viral on social media.

Jalabhishek Conducted Inside the Monument

Meera Rathore placed a Shivling within the Taj Mahal premises and poured Gangajal over it. She also attempted to light incense sticks for worship. In two widely shared videos, lasting 14 seconds and 11 seconds respectively, she can be seen performing the ritual while chanting “Bam Bam Bhole” and “Jai Shiv Shankar.”

Taj Mahal Referred to as ‘Tejomahal’

During the ritual, Meera Rathore referred to the Taj Mahal as ‘Tejomahal’ and stated that she was there to conduct a special Mahashivratri worship. In the viral video, she can be heard saying, “I have entered Tejo Mahal. Since it is Mahashivratri, I am offering water to Bhole Baba. We will bathe our Bhole Baba…”

Social Media Reaction and Controversy

Following the incident, the videos have triggered mixed reactions across social media platforms. Some users support the act as an expression of religious belief, while others see it as a violation of monument regulations. The Taj Mahal, being a protected heritage site, does not permit religious rituals within its premises, raising concerns about potential rule violations and security breaches.

Possible Legal Consequences

The administration may take action in response to this incident, potentially launching an investigation into the violation of security protocols. Authorities might also seek clarification from officials responsible for security at the site. As of now, the incident has become a significant topic of discussion, with many awaiting further developments and potential consequences.
